Incident at 110NM NW TORONTO / LESTER B. PEARSON INTL ON (CYYZ)
2020-01-16: An Air Canada Airbus A330-343 (C-GEGC/ACA739) from Toronto/Lester B. Pearson, ON (CYYZ) to San Francisco, CA (KSFO), after entering Cleveland Air Route Traffic Control Center (ZOB) airspace, elected to return to CYYZ due to an issue with the flaps. On first contact with Toronto Centre (CZY), pilot declared a PAN PAN, and advised they would be making a flapless landing and requested that the Aircraft Rescue and Fire Fighting (ARFF) unit be standing by to check brakes. ACA739 landed at 0309Z without further incident. No impact on operations, Aviation Operations Centre (AVOPS) notified.
2020-02-21: UPDATE TSB Report #A20O0003: Air Canada flight ACA739, an Airbus A330 (C-GEGC) aircraft, was on route from Toronto (CYYZ) to San Francisco (KSFO), when the flight notified Cleveland Centre of a flap and hydraulic issue and requested a return to CYYZ. After arriving in Canadian airspace, the crew declared a PAN PAN in order to coordinate a landing with zero flaps. The crew requested aircraft rescue and firefighting (ARFF) standing by in Toronto to inspect the brakes on arrival. The aircraft landed without further incident and taxied off the runway under its own power. Prior to departure aircraft had MEL “Flap Sys 2 INOP and Yellow HYD Pump Low Pressure Alert”. In cruise flight crew received yellow hydraulic low indication. The flight crew in consultation with MOC decided to return to YYZ. Maintenance found the pressure switch to be leaking. The pressure switch and o-ring were replaced and the aircraft was returned to service after the appropriate AMM service checks.
