Incident at TORONTO / LESTER B. PEARSON INTL ON (CYYZ)
2019-10-07: An Air Canada Embraer ERJ 190-100 IGW (C-FHOY/ACA442) on a flight from Toronto/Lester B. Pearson Intl, ON (CYYZ) to Ottawa/MacDonald-Cartier Intl, ON (CYOW) departed CYYZ and approximately 10NM southeast of CYYZ, reported an odor in the cockpit. The aircraft declared PAN PAN and elected to return to land CYYZ Runway 23. ACA442 landed at 1252Z and stopped on the runway for inspection before taxiing to the gate without further incident.
2019-11-15: Update TSB Report #A19O0146: C-FHOY, an Embraer E-190 aircraft operated by Air Canada, was conducting flight ACA442 from Toronto/Lester B. Pearson Intl (CYYZ), ON to Ottawa/Macdonald-Cartier Intl (CYOW), ON with 4 crew members and 60 passengers on board. Shortly after take-off from CYYZ, ACA442 declared a PAN PAN due to an odour in the cockpit. The aircraft returned to CYYZ and stopped on the runway to be inspected by ARFF, there was no sign of fire. The aircraft returned to the gate without further incident. Maintenance checked the aircraft and found the APU oil level on the high side. The APU oil level was adjusted to correct level. The APU intake cover and aft fuselage belly were found contaminated with oil, the areas were cleaned and the recirculating air filters replaced.
