Incident at In the vicinity of: FREDERICTON INTL NB (CYFC)

Summary

2015-09-24: After hand off from Boston, MA Air Route Traffic Control Center (BOS ARTCC), the pilot of a WestJet Encore de Havilland DHC-8-402 (C-FHEN/ WEN3484) from Ottawa, ON (CYOW) to Moncton, NB (CYQM) reported that they had encountered moderate with occasional severe turbulence a short time before. There was no known or reported turbulence in the vicinity at the time. One passenger had been injured after striking the cabin ceiling when a seat belt malfunctioned. Though the injury appeared minor, a request was made to have an ambulance meet aircraft on arrival. No further assistance or priority was requested and aircraft landed safely at 2018Z. No impact.
2015-09-30: Update from Commercial & Business Aviation: The Captain advised that during climb out, a pilot report (PIREP) of moderate turbulence was received from Air Traffic Control (ATC). As soon as the report was received, the seat belt sign was illuminated and the flight attendants (FAs) were advised to halt service and secure the cabin. The FAs reported that everyone was secure during their checks. The aircraft was at FL230 and the crew was watching the wind vectors jump from 40 to 100 knots and requested to climb to FL250. ATC had responded with ?standby?, it was shortly after that the moderate turbulence was experienced. It was suspected that the guest removed their seat belt as there was no damage to the seat belt reported. The guest was assessed by the Captain, when it was convenient, and the guest had advised they were okay. The Captain asked for emergency medical service (EMS) to meet the aircraft on the ground as a precaution, no further medical treatment was required.
