Incident at J.A. DOUGLAS MCCURDY SYDNEY AIRPORT

Summary

2015-06-24: A Highlands Flying Club Cessna 172K (C-FYKY) on a local flight from Port Hawkesbury, NS (CYPD) did not establish communications with Flight Service Station (FSS) prior to entering control zone. Transponder was turned off. The pilot was asked to recycle transponder. VFR target was then observed and identified 3 nm east of Sydney, NS (CYQY). No prior communications were made with the aircraft until this point. No impact on operations, but did have a Jazz de Havilland DHC-8-100 (JZA8805) depart Runway 25, westbound, approximately 20 minutes prior.
