Incident at 40 WEST MONCTON / GREATER MONCTON INTL NB (CYQM) (Aerodrome - runway or taxiway surface condition)
2015-03-04: A Sunwing Airlines Boeing 737 800 (SWG9275), from Moncton, NB (CYQM), to Saint John, NB (CYSJ), departed CYQM for CYSJ but due to weather SWG9275 did not attempt approach and returned to CYQM. SWG9275 circled CYQM as runway conditions deteriorated. Eventually, SWG9275 elected to divert to CYQB and stated it was requesting priority. No emergency declared. No impact on the operation.
2015-03-12: UPDATE; TSB Report#A15Q0031: On 22 January 2015, the Boeing 737-81D, registered as C-FFPH with 2 crew was on a flight from Moncton, NB (CYQM) to St. John, NB (CYSJ), with Quebec, QC (CYQB) as the alternate. After departing Moncton, the flight crew contacted St. John mandatory frequency to obtain a runway condition report. They were advised that the runway conditions were below the landing limits. After discussion with dispatch the crew returned to Moncton. Two approaches were attempted in Moncton which resulted in missed approaches due to weather and not having visual contact with the runway at minimums. After the second missed approach, the crew elected to divert to Quebec (CYQB). The fuel level on arrival in Quebec was trending towards minimum diversion fuel. The flight crew declared minimum fuel and requested priority handling inbound to Quebec. The flight landed at Quebec at 1305Z.
