Incident at ARCTIC BAY NU (CYAB) (Aerodrome, runway or taxiway shutdown)
2013-02-08: Upon landing at CYAB, a First Air Aerospatiale ATR72 (C-GLHR/ operating as FAB5884) on a IFR flight from Iqaluit (CYFB) to Arctic Bay (CYAB) brakes seized. Aircraft shutdown on runway, NOTAM was issued closing runway.
2017-03-06: UPDATE Maintenance & Manufacturing: February 7, 2013, aircraft ATR 72 registration C-GLHR operating flight 5884 landed in Arctic Bay (YAB) and inboard brakes on both sides locked up and would not release. The aircraft skidded down the center line of the runway. Maintenance upon arriving at the aircraft discovered tires #2, #3 and #4 had signs of tread rubber reversion. Tires #3 and #4 were replaced. Tire #2 was serviceable. Brake units #2, #3 and #4 were confirmed frozen during inspection with the main wheels removed. The brake units were heated to remove moisture and confirmed to rotate freely. The brake units were also inspected for general condition and leaks with no fault found. The normal braking operational test was carried out with no faults found i.a.w. ATR JIC. Aircraft was returned to service and positioned back to YFB.
