Incident at 13 NM NW of YELLOWKNIFE AIRPORT (CYZF)

Summary

2013-01-23: UPDATE Maintenance & Manufacturing: Shortly after departure the crew noted that the #2 HSI was not responding and requested a clearance to return to Yellowknife. The aircraft landed without further incident. Company Maintenance checked the #2 HSI with ground power supplied to the aircraft and allowed the Directional Gyro appropriate warm-up time; no faults were noted. Suspect gyro was slow to spool up due to OAT is -45C. The aircraft was returned to service and there have been no further reported incidents.
2013-01-21: Shortly after departure the pilot of an Air Tindi Beech 200 (operating as DA504) on a IFR flight requested a clearance to return to Yellowknife because of an avionics problem. No priority declared and no ARFF requested. No operational impact.
