2013-01-11: UPDATE TSB A13C0003: The Custom Helicopters Ltd. Bell 206B, registration C-GGZS, was tasked by RCC Trenton to pick up two hunters stranded on sea ice roughly 8 nm NE of CYEK Arviat, Nunavut, and transport them to Arviat. The helicopter landed approximately 200 feet away from the hunters. The pilot maintained approximately 60% torque to keep the helicopter light on the skids. The helicopter began to sink and water entered the cockpit. The right front windscreen was partially dislodged and the hunters helped extricate the pilot from the cockpit through the windscreen opening. Two Canadian Forces SAR Technicians parachuted to the site. All personnel were evacuated to Arviat by a Canadian Forces Griffon approximately 2.5 hours later and treated for hypothermia. The helicopter was substantially damaged.
