Incident at FREDERICTON INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT
2015-10-21: Update Maintenance & Manufacturing: The snag was that the gear unsafe light and horn came on as soon as the gear was selected up and the gear unlocked. The gear would go down and lock and the light/horn would stop. During the approach all three gear lights were green. Maintenance discovered that the switch was indicating that the flaps were down all the time. This meant that if the gear was not down and locked there was an immediate warning. Maintenance cleaned and lubricated the switch and checked with a meter that it was operating properly. The rigging was checked to ensure the warning horn came on just over the approach gate as per the manual. Gear swings were completed with the flaps and throttles set to various configurations. There were no issues with the aircraft. The switches are in a place where exhaust and water and soap etc. may migrate into. There is no real requirement to lubricate and or clean the switches through regular maintenance. A clean of the switches will be implemented in the future inspections.
