Incident at J.A. DOUGLAS MCCURDY SYDNEY AIRPORT (FOD (foreign object debris), Aerodrome, runway or taxiway shutdown)


2015-10-22: A Canadian North Boeing 737-408 (C-FLDX/ MPE9810) from Halifax, NS (CYHZ) to Sydney, NS (CYQY) reported striking some small birds upon landing runway 07. SAA field maintenance was dispatched to inspect the runway and four small birds were picked up from the runway centreline approximately 500 feet from the threshold runway 07. The pilot of MPE9810 was advised and he said he would inspect the aircraft while parked on the apron. The pilot advised at 1830Z that it appeared no birds had been ingested into the engines. PAL Aerospace (SPR01) a BE20 was delayed on an IFR departure runway 07 by approximately 8 minutes while SAA field maintenance recovered the small birds and performed a complete bird inspection on runway 07/25 .
