Incident at 52N 050W (Aerodrome, runway or taxiway shutdown)


2015-10-20: UPDATE: TSB REPORT#A13A0106: The Air France Boeing 777-200ER aircraft, registration F-GSPA, was operating as AFR012 for a planned flight from Paris Charles de Gaulle to JFK, New York. While in cruise, a burning smell was noted in the business class section of the cabin. AFR012 diverted to St. John's, NL, and landed without further incident. No emergency was declared and no assistance was required. The burning smell had dissipated prior to landing at St. John's. Maintenance determined that the smell had come from the recirculation fan. The fan was secured and the aircraft was returned to service.
2015-10-20: The pilot of Air France Boeing 777-200 (AFR012) from Paris, France (LFPG) to New York, NY (KJFK) advised Gander High Domestic controller of a technical issue (burning smell in the airplane), and requested to land at St. John's, NL (CYYT) to have it investigated. There was no emergency declared and no assistance required. Landed at 1441Z and Runway 29 was closed 1441-1448Z to check for debris. An Air Canada (ACA690) was delayed on landing until the runway was checked.
