Incident at 6424N 5649W (ATS operating irregularity)

Summary

2014-12-16: An Air France Airbus 340-300 (AFR694) from Paris, France (LFPG) to Minneapolis, NM (KMSP), route LFPG KMSP, FL360 65N 50W 64N 60W, was rerouted by Prestwick for traffic to 65N 50W then 63N 60W. The pilot had a boundary point loaded in the FMS, 6424N 5649W that was not changed after the reroute. With the position report given to Iceland at 40W, AFR694 reported the correct 50W coordinate and then 6424N 5649W next. Reykjavik did not investigate the discrepancy in route and Gander Ocean did not receive the 40W report. AFR694 reported 50W at 1709Z and indicated 6424N 5649W. Gander Ocean queried Reykjavik who in turn queried the aircraft. AFR694 acknowledged the error in route and told Reykjavik that it was too late to modify. AFR694 operated within 12 minutes longitudinally and 25 miles laterally of DLH446, a Lufthansa Boeing 747 400 from Frankfurt, Germany (EDDF) to Denver, CO (KDEN) at the same flight level. Gander Ocean advised Gander High about the route discrepancy and Gander High observed both flights through automatic dependent surveillance-broadcast (ADSB) surveillance.
