Incident at 30 miles SW STEPHENVILLE NL (CYJT)


2014-12-15: UPDATE: TSB Report#A13A0100: The United Airlines Boeing 757-224 aircraft (N12109), operating as flight UAL74 was enroute from Hamburg to Newark Liberty. About 30 nm south west of St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador, the crew observed that the cabin altitude had climbed to 12,000 ft. The crew carried out the quick reference handbook procedures and requested a descent. UAL74 declared an emergency and descended to 10000 ft. UAL74 returned to, and landed at Newark without further incident. Company maintenance personal replaced the outflow valve and the cabin Pressure Control Panel. The aircraft was returned to service.
2014-12-15: A United Airlines Boeing 757 200 (UAL74) from Newark, NJ (KEWR) to Hamburg (EDDH) was approximately 30 miles south west of Stephenville, NL (CYJT) declared emergency due to a pressurization problem and advised he was starting his descent to 7000. No traffic and aircraft was given clearance 7000 block 10000 after coordination with Gander, NL (CYQX) low level airspace (LOW). The aircraft requested vectors back to KEWR and was cleared that way. No further assistance required and once level he advised no need for vectors he could navigate on his own.
