Incident at In the vicinity of: FREDERICTON INTL NB (CYFC)

2014-12-12: At 1212Z, on a local flight from Fredericton, the pilot of a Canlink Aviation Inc. Diamond DA 20-C1 (C-FNTK), 8 nautical miles north of CYFC, reported a low oil pressure indication. The aircraft returned to CYFC for landing with Airport Rescue and Fire Fighting (ARFF) services on standby. The aircraft landed at 1218Z with no further incident.
2014-12-12: UPDATE: Aviation Incident Report: The Tower reported that a Diamond Eclipse was coming in on runway 27 with low oil pressure; Red 9 responded. Red 9 held short on taxi ALPHA while the aircraft landed safely. Then once down Red 9 followed aircraft and 2 souls on board back to MFC apron. Emergency stand-by over at 0930 hrs.
2014-12-12: Update Maintenance & Manufacturing: Maintenance tested the oil pressure sender unit and gauge and found the indicator to be reading 10 psi lower than a calibrated test gauge. A new unit was installed and tested with all readings normal. Engine runs were carried out and oil pressure found to still be below limits. Oil pressure relief valve removed and inspected with some slight damage to poppet valve and seat. Both polished and all marks removed. Starter removed and starter and cluster gear inspected as per CM SB 04-7 with all wear found to be within limits. Poppet valve and starter reinstalled. Removed engine drain plug and filter and checked for metal. Small pieces of metal found on oil drain plug. A starter was replaced on this engine 60 hours previous and the metal is believed to be from that. There was no metal found in the oil filter. Engine runs were carried out with oil pressures and temperatures found to be within limits at low and high power and higher temps. It is believed that the high outside air temperatures combined with longer ground waits in YFC are creating the overheating problems. Because the aircraft has a smaller oil cooler it is harder to recover from a higher oil temperature which gives it the lower oil pressure. The aircraft was released.
