Incident at SAINT JOHN NB (CYSJ)
2014-12-12: A Jazz Aviation de Havilland DHC 8-311 (C-FADF/ JZA8791) from Saint John, NB (CYSJ) to Montreal, QC (CYUL) declared emergency immediately on departure. Instrument problems, the aircraft circled area for about 15 minutes, then advised that the issues were sorted out using a backup system and they proceeded to destination. No impact on the operation.
2014-12-12: UPDATE: AVIATION INCIDENT REPORT#13181: At 0900Z Saint John's Airport Emergency Services was notified and took position. Stood down at 0918Z.
2014-12-12: UPDATE: TSB REPORT#A13A0082: The Jazz Dash 8 300 (registration C-FADF) aeroplane had just departed Saint John (CYSJ) airport. After departure the crew noted several instrument failures including, yaw damp, auto pilot, flight director. The crew declared a Mayday and circled the airport while speaking to maintenance. The instruments came back on line and maintenance suspected an altitude heading reference system (AHRS) failure. Once the instruments were reset the crew elected to continue to destination. AHRS #2 had been placarded out of service and deferred. Maintenance replaced AHRS #2 and it tested serviceable; the aircraft was released to service.
