Incident at FREDERICTON INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT (Aerodrome, runway or taxiway shutdown)


2014-11-28: UPDATE: TSB REPORT#A13A0077: The Moncton Flight College PA 44 (registration C-GMFC) aeroplane was returning to Fredericton after a training flight. When the gear was selected down an unsafe indication was received. Two tower fly bys were conducted and the gear was reported to appear normal. An emergency was declared and the aircraft landed without incident. Maintenance determined there was a broken wire in the switch located in the wheel well. This was repaired and the aircraft released to service.
2014-11-28: UPDATE: AVIATION INCIDENT REPORT: The Tower called at 1745hrs that a Piper-Seminole is coming in on runway 27 with a pilot that considered that the left landing was not working properly. Responded on standby-by with Red 9 and Red 6 in ALPHA. Once stationed, the aircraft did a fly by for the tower to check landing gear then tower changed landing to runway 33. The aircraft and crew landed safely, Red 9 followed the aircraft into taxi bravo while Red 6 escorted MFC crew to aircraft to pin the left landing gear. Once the aircraft was safe to return to MFC apron Red 9 and Red 6 returned back to fire hall.
2014-11-28: A Canlink Aviation Piper PA-44-180 (C-GMFC) on a local flight from Fredericton, NB (CYFC) reported gear light indication,and conducted two fly bys, MFC Maintenance advised pilot that gear appeared to be normal. ARFF on standby. C-GMFC declared an emergency landed runway 33 at 2103Z with no further incident. Runway 15/33 was closed from 2103Z until 2117Z. Jazz Aviation (JZA7668) was inbound from Montreal, QC (CYUL) extended downwind runway 27, delay less than 5 minutes.
2014-11-28: Update Maintenance & Manufacturing: Maintenance found the left gear down indicator light wire was pulled out of the connector. A new connector was installed, heat shrink applied and the wire bundle re-secured. Multiple gear swings carried out along with free fall verification. All limit switches function tested with no faults found.
