Summary

2013-01-23: Five minutes after departure from Deer Lake (CYDF) enroute to Halifax (CYHZ), JZA8883, DHC 8 301, cancelled IFR and requested clearance to return to Deer Lake due to unspecified reasons. The aircraft remained in the vicinity of Deer Lake for the next 10 minutes after which it requested another IFR clearance to the original destination of Halifax. The aircraft was cleared as requested. When queried, the flight crew stated that it was an avionics issue that was corrected.
