Incident at 70 Miles Northeast of Sept-Îles (CYZV)


2013-01-21: UAL121, Boeing 757 200, enroute from Goose Bay (CYYR) to Newark (KEWR), declared an emergency after cabin depressurization and requested clearance to descend. The aircraft was immediately cleared to 29,000 feet into Montreal's air space. Montreal advised the aircraft was continuing to destination at 10,000 feet. TSB Case Closed.
2013-01-29: UPDATE TSB: A13A0005: The United Airlines Boeing B757-200W aircraft (N33132) was enroute from Goose Bay to Newark airport at FL380 when the crew heard a loud squeal and noted the cabin altitude increasing to a maximum of 10 000 feet. A red ICAS message and CABIN light illuminated and the cabin altitude horn sounded. The flight crew declared an emergency and donned their oxygen masks. The crew carried out the steps in accordance with the quick reference handbook. Pressurization could not be maintained so the aircraft descended to 10 000 feet. The aircraft diverted to Boston airport and landed without further incident. The cabin oxygen masks did not deploy and no injuries were reported. Maintenance found a forward overboard exhaust valve stuck in the open position. The valve was replaced and aircraft returned to service.
