Incident at KITCHENER / WATERLOO ON (CYKF) (Communication navigation surveillance/air traffic system, ATM - other)
2012-07-31: The privately owned and operated Vans RV10 aircraft was on a trans-border VFR flight from Portsmouth (US) (KPSM) to Kitchener (CYKF). After arriving at Kitchener, the pilot attempted to close the flight plan but there was no information on file. The pilot claimed to have filed a plan but it is not known if it was activated.
2012-08-10: UPDATE Supplemental information received from the pilot [2012/08/09]: A Civil Aviation Safety Inspector (CASI) received an e-mail from the pilot in which he stated that he had filed a flight plan with Lockheed Martin staff with an assumed departure time, minutes before the aircraft actually departed on the flight from Pease (Portsmouth International) Airport, NH (U.S.A.) (KPSM) to Kitchener/Waterloo Regional Airport (CYKF). Upon landing, the pilot closed the flight plan by telephone. The flight does appear in Flight Aware. The pilot's understanding is that only flights with flight plans appear in Flight Aware.
