Incident at Gander Airspace (Conflict - potential, Communication navigation surveillance/air traffic system)

Summary

2011-01-06: At 03:15Z, the Gander Area Control Centre was advised that New York had experienced a complete Advanced Technologies and Oceanic Procedures (ATOP) System loss. Gander was advised that flights were not permitted to enter New York?s airspace due to the system failure. During the time that New York?s system was down, Gander received position reports on seven different aircraft indicating the flights were entering Gander?s airspace. Gander did not receive estimate data from New York on any of these flights. Traffic in Gander?s airspace was moved to accommodate the New York traffic.
