2011-01-11: UPDATE TSB: A10A0123: KFA398, a Kelowna Flightcraft Boeing 727-200 (C-GIKF), en route from Halifax to St. John's NL had landed on rwy 16 at St. John's International. During the flare, the aircraft drifted toward the right edge of the runway and the pilot attempted to correct. After touchdown, the aircraft continued drifting right until the right main landing gear left the runway edge. The aircraft then returned to the runway centerline, slowed to taxi speed and taxied to the apron. A short time later, maintenance personnel advised the flight crew that they had discovered grass in the right main gear brakes. Shortly after, the airport duty manager advised the crew that a runway inspection revealed that three right runway edge lights had been damaged. There was no damage to the aircraft. Heavy rain was falling during the approach and landing. Another aircraft had landed ahead of KFA398 and had reported turbulence from 2000 to 100 feet agl and that the braking action was fair. The reported surface winds were 150 degrees magnetic at 12 gusting to 16 knots. TSB Class: Being Assessed.
2010-12-21: UPDATE Aerodrome Safety: KFA398, Boeing 727-200, enroute from Halifax (CYHZ) to St. John's (CYYT), exited Runway 16 on the east side just past Taxiway "J" . The aircraft travelled 564 ft along the grass about five feet from the pavement edge. Four runway edge lights were broken due to the excursion.
2010-12-17: The St. John?s (CYYT) field foreman advised that debris was found on Runway 16/34 and three edge lights were broken. Runway 16/34 was closed from 21:00Z until 23:20Z to remove the debris and repair the lights. Winds at the time were 16015G25. SPR411 was six miles final at the time and was vectored for Runway 11. There was no other operational impact. TSB Evaluating.
