Incident at HALIFAX / STANFIELD INTL NS (CYHZ)
Summary
2010-10-12: UPDATE TSB: A10A0096: AAL199, an American Airlines Boeing 767-300, was en route from Milan to New York when at 1325 ADT, the flight crew declared an emergency due to smoke in the cockpit. The crew then diverted the flight to Halifax and landed safely without further incident with ARFF standing by. Maintenance personnel will be advising the TSB of their findings. UPDATE - 17 September 2010: Maintenance inspection revealed that the forward equipment cooling fan had malfunctioned causing the smoke. The fan was disabled and the aircraft was returned to service. The aircraft departed Halifax for New York at 1706 ADT and exited Canadian airspace without further incident.
2010-09-17: At 16:25Z, the Moncton Area Control Centre (ACC) advised that AAL199 was diverting to Halifax (CYHZ) with smoke in the cockpit. Emergency Response Services were called out. The aircraft landed safely at 16:41Z. There were minor delays to five arriving aircraft and to one departing aircraft. TSB Case Closed.
