Incident at GOOSE BAY NL (CYYR)
Summary
2010-08-11: AFR344, Boeing 777-300ER, enroute from Paris (LFPG) to Montreal (CYUL), declared an emergency 280 nautical miles west northwest of Goose Bay (CYYR) due to a fire warning in the forward cargo area. The aircraft diverted to Goose Bay where it landed safely with Aircraft Rescue and Fire Fighting (ARFF) on standby. There was no impact on operations.
2010-08-12: UPDATE Maintenance & Manufacturing: The crew had used the fire extinguishers even though there was no evidence of smoke. The aircraft landed safely and taxied to the ramp in front of the Fire Hall. The passengers deplaned before the cargo hatch was opened, no evidence of fire was found. The fault was traced to the fire detector in the lower cargo hole. A maintenance crew flew in with the replacement part and installed it and returned the aircraft to service.
2010-08-16: UPDATE TSB: A10A0086: The Air France B777 Flt 344,(Registration F-GZNF) was 280 NM WNW of Goose Bay when a forward cargo hold fire alarm illuminated. The aircraft declared an emergency, requested direct Goose Bay landing at 1708 ADT. Maintenance replaced the forward lower level cargo smoke detector and released the aircraft to service.
