Incident at FREDERICTON INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT (Aerodrome, runway or taxiway shutdown)

2010-08-03: A Canadian Registered Zenair CH 701, departed from Runway 33 in Fredericton (CYFC) for the circuit at 23:03Z. When the aircraft was in the crosswind, the engine failed. An aircraft that had been cleared for a Touch-and-Go maneuver on Runway 33 was pulled up, and the CH 701 was cleared to land on Runway 15. The aircraft did not appear to be able to make it to the runway so the controller instructed him to land wherever he was able. The aircraft touched down in the grass just short of the threshold of Runway 15 and rolled onto the pavement. The runway was closed. A Jazz aircraft was cleared to land on 09, and the other three circuit aircraft were switched to Runway 27. A runway inspection was completed at 23:15 with no debris found.
