Incident at HALIFAX / STANFIELD INTL NS (CYHZ)

Summary

2010-04-12: C-GOSE, Aerospatiale AS 332L, enroute from Halifax (CYHZ) to the Thebaud Offshore Oil Rig, departed VFR at 10:03Z. Four nautical miles southeast of the airport, the pilot declared an emergency due to a possible fire in the number-2 engine. The pilot advised that the flight was returning to the airport and requested the Aircraft Rescue and Fire Fighting (ARFF) stand by. The aircraft landed on Runway 32 at 10:10Z and passengers and crew evacuated the aircraft. The aircraft exited the runway and the runway was available at 10:43Z. TSB Case Closed.
2010-04-21: UPDATE TSB: A10A0037: C-GOSE, a Canadian Helicopters Eurocopter AS-332L Super Puma, had departed Halifax for the Thebaud natural gas processing platform. Approximately four nm SE of Halifax, the flight crew received a fire indication in the number two engine (Turbomeca Makila 1A1). The crew discharged the fire supression system, declared an emergency, and advised that they were returning to Halifax. The aircraft landed safely without further incident with ARFF on stand by. The crew and passengers evacuated the helicopter on the runway and the runway was cleared approximately 30 minutes after landing. Maintenance inspection did not reveal any indication of a fire. Maintenance personnel replaced all six of the fire detectors (Four hot (P/N: H442-1) & two cold (P/N: H342-1)) and tested the printed circuit board and fire detector harness. The aircraft has been returned to service
