Accident at Southeast of Yarmouth (CYQI)
2010-04-22: UPDATE TSB: A10A0025: The pilot of C-GFVE, a Central Valley Aircraft (Greenwood Flight Centre) Cessna 172, was conducting a low-altitude waterfowl survey with two passengers on board. While conducting the survey, the engine, a Lycoming O-320-B2D, lost power. The pilot then elected to conduct a forced landing on a paved road. The aircraft contacted a telephone line just prior to touchdown with approximately 600 feet of road remaining. The aircraft veered toward the right, the right wing struck a stop sign. The aircraft continued forward, crossing a ditch and striking a tree before coming to rest. The pilot and the two passengers were seriously injured. The aircraft was substantially damaged.
2010-03-08: C-GFVE, Cessna 172M, on a VFR flight that originated in Waterville (CCW3), attempted a forced landing on Highway 3, southeast of Yarmouth (CYQI) due to an apparent engine malfunction. The aircraft went into a ditch. The pilot experienced serious injuries and was hospitalized. The two passengers received minor injuries. There was no vehicle traffic involved in the accident. TSB Case Closed.
