Incident at Bagotville Area (Moncton ACC) (TCAS alert)

Summary

2010-03-05: At approximately 15:28Z, ACA868, Boeing 767-300, enroute from Toronto (CYYZ) to London (EGLL) at 37,000 ft., reported that they had an aircraft on TCAS at the same flight level off their left side. After reviewing the radar tapes it appears that an F18 working in the Bagotville (CYBG) area left the airspace and proceeded toward ACA868. The aircraft in question was squawking code 0103 then squawked 1200 when leaving the Bagotville airspace proceeding directly toward the Air Canada flight. The target was lost on Radar shortly thereafter. The pilot and Bagotville MTCU were contacted and informed us the F18 (Alout55) proceeded from the military airspace doing a high altitude climb, 20,000 ft. per minute, and leveled off at 9,000 ft. then proceeded to Baie-Comeau (CYBC) for a VFR approach before returning. The TCAS alert may have been caused by the high rate of climb. The National Operations Centre (NOC) and NORAD/Sidecar were advised. Nil TSB.
