Incident at GOOSE BAY NL (CYYR)
2010-02-15: SPR1460, Fairchild SA227AC, enroute from Deer Lake (CYDF) to Wabush (CYWK), declared an emergency due to smoke in the cockpit. The flight requested clearance to divert to Goose Bay (CYYR). The aircraft was cleared direct to Goose Bay and landed at 15:21Z. No assistance was required. TSB Case Closed.
2010-03-16: UPDATE TSB: A10A0018: SPR1469, a Provincial Airlines Fairchild SW4, was en route from Deer Lake to Wabush when the pilot's attitude indicator failure flag appeared. A short time later, smoke began emanating from the pilot's instrument panel. The flight crew completed the emergency checklist and opened the circuit breaker for the pilot's attitude indicator after which the smoke dissipated. After checking the weather at destination and several other airports, the crew elected to divert the flight to Goose Bay. They declared an emergency and requested and received a clearance to Goose Bay. The aircraft landed at Goose Bay without further incident. Maintenance inspection has revealed that the source of the smoke was the pilot's attitude indicator. The indicator was replaced and the aircraft has since been returned to service.
