Incident at SAINT JOHN NB (CYSJ) (Aerodrome, runway or taxiway shutdown)
Summary
2010-01-25: C-FNGN, Diamond DA 20 C1, reported a dead battery during a stop and go maneuver. Runway O5/23 was unavailable from 07:49Z until 08:55Z when the aircraft was towed off the runway. There was no impact on operations. Nil TSB.
2010-01-27: UPDATE Maintenance & Manufacturing: When the aircraft landed during a touch and go maneuver, the pilot did not set the fuel mixture to full rich. This resulted in the aircraft engine stalling on the runway. The mixture was then set to Idle Cutoff Operation (ICO). The pilot proceeded to start the engine and drained the battery. The aircraft was towed and the battery was re-charged. The aircraft was released and returned to service. Flight Operations is assessing as to why the landing checklist was not followed.
