Incident at ST. JOHN'S INTL NL (CYYT) (ATS operating irregularity, ATM - ILS irregularity)

Summary

2007-02-12: Narritive update: ACA654. Airbus 321, enroute from Halifax (CYHZ) to St. John?s (CYYT), was cleared for the Straight in ILS 29 approach at St. John's with the glide path unserviceable. Although the ILS issue was recorded in a NOTAM, the crew was not advised by the ATC. When on final there was some confusion about the approach and the crew advised they were conducting a missed approach, as they were not comfortable with their positioning. The aircraft landed on the second approach without further incident. Nil TSB.
2007-01-31: ACA654, Airbus A321, enroute from Halifax (CYHZ) to St. John?s (CYYT), was cleared for the Straight in ILS 29 approach at St. John's when the active approach was a Localizer 29 due to the unavailability of the glide path. When approximately 5 miles final the crew advised they were conducting a missed approach, as they were not comfortable with their positioning. The aircraft landed on the second approach without further incident. Nil TSB.
