Incident at GRANDE PRAIRIE AB (CYQU) (ATS operating irregularity)

2005-05-26: WJA 74, a B737-700, was departing Grande Prairie for Edmonton and traffic in the area included 2 inbound IFR aircraft. An ATC Operating Irregularity occurred when the Edmonton ACC Controller mistakenly issued the crew a departure instruction that included a left turn to a heading rather than the planned right turn. The aircraft departed, made the left turn and ultimately did a 180 degree turn to return to the planned departure route. There was no loss of separation.
2005-06-06: UPDATE ANS and Airspace reported that Nav Canada will conduct a Level 1 Operational Safety Investigation concerning this occurrence.
