Incident at FORT MCMURRAY AB (CYMM) (Aerodrome - other)


2005-05-02: Seven people were observed crossing Taxiway Alpha at Fort McMurray airport without authorisation from FSS. Airport personnel were advised at 1802Z. At 1809Z, the group of seven people then proceeded across Taxiway Alpha to the main ramp without radio contact.
2005-05-04: UPDATE Aerodrome Safety reported that the Local Civil Aviation Search and Rescue Association (CASARA) chapter at Fort McMurray in concert with DND personnel from the Search and Rescue Unit based at Winnipeg were holding an events and awareness day at the airport. A lone Para jumper landed on the infield at the airport after having jumped from an over flying DND Hercules. The exercise had been coordinated with FSS at Fort McMurray and the Hercules flight crew. Once the parachutist had landed a portion CASARA group (7) proceeded airside without authorization or escort. They gained access through a gate which was believed to have been opened by a local pilot who knew the entry code. The airport authority had not been notified about the exercise nor had a NOTAM been issued. The Airport Authority are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding this occurrence.
