Incident at THOMPSON MB (CYTH)

Summary

2005-03-04: PAG 771, a Metro II, was 25 NM northwest of Thompson when the crew delared an emergency, shut down the right engine and returned to YTH. AFF responded as the flight landed uneventfully at 1432Z and taxied to the apron. TSB has been in contact with the company.
2005-03-08: UPDATE TSB reported that while climbing through FL 130 after departure from Thompson, the crew of Perimeter Airlines SA226-TC Metro, C-GIQK, noticed that the right hand engine began to surge and lose power. The engine surging stabilized at approximately 90 percent torgue, however the engine power could not be controlled through either the power levers or speed levers. The crew requested a return to Thompson. During descent through 8,000 feet, the engine again began to surge and the crew elected to shut it down. The aircraft landed safely with AFF standing by. Maintenance personnel discovered that the Honeywell fuel control unit input lever on the Garrett PTE331-10 engine, had separated from its splined shaft arrangement causing a loss of engine power control. The lever is held on the p/n 893086-2 shaft by a p/n 897548-1 screw which passes through a recessed area in the shaft.
