Incident at SASKATOON / JOHN G. DIEFENBAKER INTL SK (CYXE) (ATS operating irregularity)

Summary

2005-02-14: The pilot of C-FBNB, a Cessna 210, departed Saskatoon for a private strip near Swift Current and opened his VFR flight plan with Saskatoon Tower at 2033Z. The pilot then contacted Edmonton FIC at 2037Z and the FSS thought the pilot was asking to close the flight plan. The FSS confirmed with the pilot that he wanted the flight plan closed and the pilot confirmed by stating 'roger'. The flight plan was closed in error and alerting service was not provided. The error was recognized when the pilot contacted the FIC on Swift Current 122.3 to close the flight plan at 2119Z.
2005-04-20: UPDATE ANS and Airspace reported that Nav Canada did not consider this an ATC Operating Irregularity; no further action.
