Incident at RED DEER REGIONAL AB (CYQF) (Aerodrome, runway or taxiway shutdown)
2005-02-11: The pilot of C-FFEE, a Piper Seneca, reported rolling for departure on Runway 16 at Red Deer. The pilot then reported that he was stuck at the side of the runway and required assistance. Airport and company staff were notified by FSS and the aircraft was pulled out of the snow and taxied back to the hangar at 1852Z. One arrival was diverted to Runway 11.
2005-02-21: UPDATE General Aviation reported that during a training flight, the instructor simulated an engine failure on the takeoff roll. The student was unprepared for the possibility of this event and was slow to reduce power and apply braking. One wheel brake caught first, sending the aircraft off the side of the runway and into the snow. The aircraft was shut down and removed for mechanic inspection. The school has reviewed the training with both the instructor and the student. The school has re-emphasized the requirement for proper student preparation and demonstation by the instructor before student exercise to all their instruction staff.
