Incident at THOMPSON MB (CYTH) (Aerodrome - other)

Summary

2005-03-16: UPDATE Aerodrome Safety reported that Staff 24 called Thompson FSS advising them of his position on the airport and further requested permission to escort a vehicle onto the runway so that a series of tests could be done by a technician from the Ford Motor Companies cold weather research facility. The building or hanger is located on the South side of the airport at the extreme west end of the apron and is used to store equipment and vehicles. The FSS operator acknowledged staff 24 request and advised him that there was no reported air or ground traffic. Staff 24 then called FSS requesting permission to proceed on to the runway. Since it was 0915 pm CST at night and there was no traffic and because he had called FSS prior to starting the escort the Ford vehicle Staff did not call when they entered on to taxiway A. The operator of staff 24 reviewed airport radio procedures for Thompson as well as the AVOP.
2005-02-09: Thompson FSS reported an unauthorized incursion of Taxiway A by Staff 24 + 1 without contacting or receiving instructions from FSS. No aircraft were in the vicinity.
