Incident at RED DEER REGIONAL AB (CYQF)

Summary

2005-02-03: UPDATE General Aviation reported that the solo student pilot was returning from the practice area and encountered windshear and associated turbulence while on approach for landing at Red Deer airport. The student initiated a missed approach and was concerned that she should proceed to another airport. She asked FSS to contact her instructor. FSS contacted the CFI, who determined the surface winds were well within acceptable limits for the aircraft (220 @ 10 kts). The student pilot was instructed to try the approach again in the flapless configuration and to maintain a steady approach speed on final before leaving for an alternate airport. The student made a successful landing and was debriefed afterwards by her instructor and the CFI of the school.
2005-02-02: The student pilot of C-GTQL, a Cessna 172, was unable to land his aircraft at Red Deer due to moderate/severe turbulence. His flight instructor was called to assist the student pilot in landing the aircraft. The flight landed safely 18 minutes later at 0308Z.
