Incident at BEAVERLODGE AB (CEU2)

Summary

2005-01-24: The Vancouver Island Helicopters Astar AS350 B-2, C-GPHM, was engaged in long-line seismic operations near Beaverlodge, AB, when the pilot noticed a damaged bag on the carousel. As he descended into a clearing beside the seismic line to evaluate the situation, the main rotor blades contacted a single tree which was in the pilot's blind spot, at his 8 o'clock position. The blades sustained substantial damage. Maintenance conducted sudden stoppage inspections, and the company's safety department is reviewing operational aspects of the occurrence.
