Incident at WRIGLEY NT (CYWY)

2005-01-24: N1558H, a Beech King Air 300, was on an IFR flight from Anchorage to Yellowknife when the a/c reportedly lost one engine, which necessitated the crew to descend from FL 270 to FL 230 without a clearance. The crew was unable to contact anyone at the time, but reached Whitehorse FSS at 0041Z to advise of their situation and at that time they requested a clearance to Whitehorse. ATC issued the clearance (at 0042Z) through FSS at FL 230 and the aircraft proceeded without further difficulty. The aircraft landed safely on Runway 31L at Whitehorse at 0203Z. No equipment was requested but the Tower did advise emergency services of the aircraft's intended arrival. There was no loss of separation since there were no other aircraft in the vicinity.
2005-01-27: UPDATE TSB reported that the Beech King Air B300, N1558H, was flying from Anchorage, AK to Yellowknife, NT. When approximately 70 NM west of Wrigley, NT, the flight crew observed a low oil pressure indication for the number 2 engine (Pratt & Whitney Canada PT6A-60A). Due to the reduction in performance, the flight crew descended from FL 270 to FL 230 without a clearance as they were unable to contact ATC. There was no loss of separation. The flight crew eventually contacted Whitehorse FSS to obtain a new clearance and to advise they were single engine and diverting to Whitehorse. FSS advised Whitehorse ARFF of the intended arrival time. Maintenance in Whitehorse determined that an 'O' ring on the oil scavenge line had ruptured. The ring was replaced and the aircraft returned to service.
