Incident at CALGARY INTL AB (CYYC)
2005-01-24: UPDATE TSB reported that the Swanberg Air Inc. British Aerospace Jetstream 31 (C-GPSW), was operating as SB 64 from Calgary, AB to Grande Prairie, AB. While climbing to the assigned altitude of 16,000 feet, the flight encountered moderate icing. A final altitude of FL 200 was requested and SB 64 exited the icing at 17,500 feet. Once clear of the cloud, the engine igniters were turned off. At this time, one of the engines, a Garrett TPE331-10UGR, flamed out. The crew was unable to re-start the engine and returned to Calgary for an uneventful landing. An emergency was not declared although ARFF was requested. Maintenance personnel suspect that ice was ingested at the time the igniters were turned off causing the engine to flame out.
2005-01-19: A BAe Jetstream 31 operated by Swanberg as SB 64, departed Calgary for Grande Prairie with 11 people on board. When the flight was 70 NM northwest of YYC, the crew turned back with an engine out. They did not declare an emergency, but requested ARFF be on standby. The aircraft landed without incident at 1730Z. TSB will contact the company.
