Incident at CALGARY INTL AB (CYYC)

Summary

2005-01-19: The WestJet Boeing 737-200, C-FIWJ, was operating as flight WJA 42 from Vancouver, BC to Calgary, AB. The aircraft encountered severe turbulence during the descent into Calgary, through 10,300 feet. Associated with the turbulence was an airspeed increase from 250 to 280 KIAS. A severe turbulence inspection was conducted by maintenance and no damage was found. SIGMET D3 was in effect for the Calgary area and warned of occasional severe turbulence between 5,000 and 14,000 feet due to a strong westerly flow aloft.
