Incident at ARVIAT NU (CYEK) (Conflict - loss of separation)


2005-01-18: UPDATE ANS and Airspace reported that Nav Canada will conduct a Level 2 Operational Safety Investigation.
2005-01-17: NWA 25, a B747-400, was en route from Detroit to Tokyo and over Hudson Bay and estimated to progress KEBVA at 2133Z. The aircraft did not progress KEBVA until 2136Z (3 minutes late) at FL 340, resulting in a 9 minute crossing track situation with BAW 269, where 10 minutes were required. The aircraft were already in conflict by the time the position report was received. NWA 25 was descended to FL 330 to re-establish separation.
2005-01-18: UPDATE TSB reported that N673US, a Boeing 747-400 operating as NWA 25 was en route from Detroit to Narita. The flight was planned to arrive overhead KEBVA intersection at 2133Z. Edmonton ACC had crossing traffic BAW 269 estimating KEBVA at 2143Z. At 2122Z, the Controller requested a progress report from NWA 25. The revised estimate for NWA 25 overhead Kebva, 2136Z, was not received until the crossing separation had decreased to 9 minutes, where 10 minutes was required. The Controller then cleared N673US to FL 330 where separation was re-established.
