Incident at WINNIPEG / JAMES ARMSTRONG RICHARDSON INTL MB (CYWG) (Aerodrome, runway or taxiway shutdown)
2005-01-20: UPDATE TSB reported that Kelowna Flighcraft KFA 586, a Convair 580, landed on Runway 31 at the Winnipeg International Airport and taxied to ramp 5. During a walk around after engine shutdown, the crew noticed that the left outboard main landing gear wheel assembly was missing. Winnipeg Tower was advised and the wheel was found beside Taxiway Victor, approximately 50 feet from the edge of Runway 31. The wheel had departed due to an axle failure. Maintenance personnel replaced the lower landing gear leg assembly and the aircraft was returned to service. The failed axle is being examined at the operator's facility.
2005-01-17: KFA 586, a Convair 580, landed on Runway 31 at Winnipeg and proceeded to Apron 5 where the crew discovered that the port main outboard wheel was missing. Tower was advised and four a/c were either overshot or held airborne until the wheel was found beside Taxiway Victor, 50 feet from the edge of Runway 31. TSB will contact the company.
