Incident at EDMONTON INTL AB (CYEG)

Summary

2005-01-14: NWA 71, a B747-400 en route from Detroit to Narita, was at 66N 110W when the crew requested a diversion to Edmonton (YEG) due to an on-board medical emergency and indicated emergency priority was required. Information was passed that fuel dumping would be required for about 15 minutes. Subsequently, it turned out that the aircraft continued to dump fuel for 29 minutes (2350-0019Z). This resulted in fuel being dumped at FL 320 on a track overhead Yellowknife (YZF). Consequently, 7 IFR aircraft were delayed operating into or out of Yellowknife, with the maximum delays being of 30 minutes each for two departures MPE 445 and FAB 954. In, addition a MEDEVAC priority aircraft C-GLMK elected to depart VFR to avoid further delays. NWA 71 landed at YEG at 0105Z.
