Incident at CALGARY INTL AB (CYYC)
2005-01-12: KNX 1706, a Dassault Falcon 20, was on approach at Calgary when the crew carried out a missed approach due to a disabled a/c near the runway (CNK 327 - CADORS 2005C0078). The crew held for 20 minutes then requested clearance to Edmonton. They soon realized that they did not have sufficient fuel, so they informed ATC that they needed to land at Calgary and soon. The flight was given priority and landed at 1540Z, however, it impacted other aircraft and increased the backlog of traffic caused by the disabled a/c. TSB will be contacting the company.
2005-01-18: UPDATE TSB reported that due to a disabled aircraft on the runway at Calgary, AB, a KnightHawk Air Express Dassault Falcon 20, registration C-FONX operating as KNX 1706, had to execute a missed approach and then hold for 20 minutes. After the hold the crew requested a clearance for Edmonton but then realized there was not sufficient fuel and that they had to land soon at Calgary. A large amount of fuel had been used during the low altitude approach and subsequent hold with all anti-ice systems in operation. The flight was given priority and landed safely approximately 10 minutes later.
