Incident at CHURCHILL MB (CYYQ)
2005-01-12: CAV 7540 landed at Churchill and taxied to the apron. The a/c came to a stop, the crew powered down the engines and then the nose gear collapsed. Damage to the aircraft is unknown at this time.
2005-01-14: UPDATE TSB reported that the Calm Air International Saab 340B-165, C-GTJX, had completed a flight from Baker Lake, MB to Churchill, MB. The aircraft was parked ready to discharge passengers. Both engines were shut down and the passenger door was open. When the battery switches were turned off, the nose wheel landing gear retracted and the nose of the aircraft struck the ground. An emergency evacuation was conducted and all passengers and crew successfully exited the aircraft. The aircraft sustained minor damage. There were no injuries with the exception of the Captain who suffered a minor injury. The aircraft was lifted, the landing gear was extended and locked down normally and the aircraft was ferried, with the gear extended, to Thompson, MB. Company maintenance personnel in conjunction with the aircraft manufacturer are assessing the problem. Further information will follow.
