Incident at WINNIPEG / JAMES ARMSTRONG RICHARDSON INTL MB (CYWG)

Summary

2005-01-07: JZA 8502, a Canadair RJ, was inbound to Winnipeg from Calgary and was on vectors for the approach. The flight crew was cleared to maintain 5,000 feet and given the altimeter setting of 29.53, which the crew read back as '953'. Three minutes later, the crew reported the field in sight and the Controller noticed that JZA 8502 was at 4,000 feet. When advised that their clearance was to 5,000 feet, they replied they were showing 5,000 feet on their altimeters. The Controller re-stated the altimeter setting of 29.53, at which time the crew acknowledged they had some 'finger problems' and were then cleared to 4,000 feet. No separation issues.
