Incident at CALGARY INTL AB (CYYC)

Summary

2005-01-05: The crew of FDX 138, an A310 which was inbound to Calgary from Memphis, was cleared VUCAN Seven STAR Arrival for Runway 16 at YYC. As the aircraft approached the YYC VOR, the crew asked if their present heading was correct. The Controller responded 'negative' and informed the crew to track the 340 degree radial. The aircraft passed the YYC VOR and continued on a heading consistent with the observed track prior to the YYC VOR. The Controller observed the non-compliance and issued a radar vector, nil conflicting aircraft in the vicinity. Separation was not lost. Subsequent discussion with the Captain indicated that the cockpit display (Honeywell) did not depict a discontinuity between the YYC VOR and the Runway 16 Final Approach Fix. The FedEx Flight Standards manager is conducting an internal safety review on this incident.
