Incident at CALGARY / SPRINGBANK AB (CYBW)

Summary

2005-01-06: UPDATE TSB reported that the Beech Baron 56TC, registration C-GVQR, was level at 16,000 feet, approximately 50 miles west of Springbank when the left engine (Avco Lycoming TIO-541-E1B4) began to surge between half power and cruise power. The pilot attempted to restore smooth operation by selecting boost pump/cross-feed; however, the engine continued to surge. The engine was secured and the aircraft returned to Springbank without further incident. Maintenance troubleshooting is scheduled to take place next week. The cause of the engine malfunction is not known.
2005-01-04: C-GVQR, a Beech 56 Baron, departed Springbank (YBW) en route to Kamloops and when the flight was 45 NM west of YBW, the pilot advised that he was returning to Calgary due to a left engine failure. The aircraft landed safely at 1911Z. No emergency equipment was requested and nil impact on other aircraft.
2005-03-21: UPDATE Maintenance and Manufacturing reported that the AME who examined the a/c could find no problems with the engine and carb ice is suspected.
