Incident at PEPKI (ATS operating irregularity)


2005-12-30: AZA627, Boeing 767-300 enroute from Chicago (KORD) to Milan (LIMC) had been authorized to climb to 34,000 ft and had read-back 34,000 ft however the aircraft did not climb, rather it remained at the previously authorized level of 33,000 ft. and reported to Gander its level as 33,000 ft. No loss of separation occurred. TSB Case Closed.
2005-12-30: UPDATE TSB A05A0160: Alitalia Boeing 767, operating as AZA627, was en route from Chicago to Milan at 33,000 ft. Gander ACC had flight-planned the aircraft at 34,000 ft. and asked Montreal ACC to clear the aircraft up to this level. Just prior to entering the Gander FIR, the crew contacted Gander ACC and requested 34,000ft. Gander ACC contacted Montreal ACC to ask why the aircraft had not been cleared to the higher level. They were informed that Montreal ACC had neglected to do so and asked Gander ACC to issue the clearance for them. There was no loss of separation. NAV CANADA is convening an OSI into the incident.
